A second global e-scrap study has begun, and its findings will be announced in November. The study, conducted by United Nations University (UNU), the International Solid Waste Association and the International Telecommunication Union, will analyze global e-scrap trends.
As of 2017, there are very few studies and statistics detailing global e-scrap generation and trends. The focus of the Global E-Waste Statistics Partnership’s study is to compile information regarding e-scrap generation, flow and disposal.
“[The goal is] to help countries produce reliable and comparable e-waste statistics, to collect data from countries and build a global e-waste database to track developments over time and to inform policy makers and industry,” Dr. Kees Baldé, PhD., said.
The Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries (ISRI) and the Bureau of International Recycling are also conducting a global e-scrap study and will announce their findings during October. The organizations began their study to build a better picture of global e-scrap trends and the future of e-scrap because of the lack of in-depth global e-scrap use research.
