Dwindling mobile handset sales have BlackBerry hoping its operating system can save the struggling smartphone maker.
Committees have come together to discuss possible ‘strategic alternatives‘ to save the mobile company, including a potential sale as well as joint ventures and partnerships to spark interest in its devices running on the unique BlackBerry 10 operating system.
While BlackBerry’s devices already running on the BlackBerry 10 operating system have failed to catch the attention of consumers, this BYOD focused system is aggressively competing with Apple’s iOS and Samsung’s Android.
Given the rapid evolution of the mobile industry and competitive landscape, BlackBerry is considering its wide spectrum of options. Who knows? With the emerging BYOD era, the BlackBerry 10 platform may become necessary for in-office mobile management.
CEO Thorsten Heins is hopeful for the future of Blackberry, but commented to USA Today “there’s lots of work to do” and still sees a long-term opportunities for BlackBerry 10.
