Survey shows tablets improve employee productivity

Dell’s recent 2014 International Tablet survey of IT Decision Makers shows a boost in employee productivity as a result of tablet adoption in the workplace.

The survey interviewed 1,400 IT professionals in the U.S., the U.K., India, Japan, China, Brazil, France, Russia, UAE/Saudi Arabia, and South Africa.

The findings

• 93% of U.S. IT workers are big proponents of tablet use
• 65% of U.S. IT decision makers plan to deploy more tablets
• 81% of surveyors agree tablets have increased productivity
• Majority of surveyors estimated a 20% increase as a result of tablet adoption
• Mobility was cited as a key benefit of tablet usage by IT Decision Makers

Tablets are most popular among sales and marketing departments, C-level executives and business development & administration personnel where mobility is key for daily activity.

The twist

Don’t plan on tossing out those PCs just yet. The survey found IT decision makers who are most concerned with device theft, device loss and data security favored laptops over tablets. The solution of the majority of American companies utilizing tablets is to pair a laptop and a tablet. 75% say these devices are best paired with laptops/desktops and 85% pair tablets with smartphones.

Tablets need to hone in on not being just another big phone without a phone function, and instead adapt to the BYOD movement. Mobility is only continuing to move forward in the workplace. By establishing itself as an essential mobile device in the office with niche functionality and security, the tablet can flourish on its own.
